Hello everyone, this is my latest work and my first realistic samurai character.
Honda Tadakatsu is one of the most famous samurai in Japan during the Sengoku Period. When I made the character, I referenced a lot of Gusoku designs from the Sengoku period, and I also referenced many images in Japanese Ukiyo-e. I also added some of my own design elements. I want to make the shape of the character more capable and vivid.
I also watched some movies about the Japanese Sengoku period, then I chose a famous Kabuki actor as the role model. I want to make the character more characteristic of the era and nationality.
The character's portrait and body are finished in ZBrush, and I finished the whole Gusoku armors and weapons in Maya, then back to ZBrush to add more details. Texturing in Substance Painter, and finally rendered it in Arnold. In addition, I used Marmoset Toolbag for rendering tests to achieve the effect I wanted.
Finally, I would like to thank my two mentors: Cui Shiying and Cui Shijie. Thank them for their guidance throughout the process.
